Therapy Modalities Used

Your treatment plan is personalized, based on your unique needs and goals. I may use these techniques or a combination of them as we work together.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT helps individuals to improve the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and actions by identifying and changing unhelpful or negative thought and behavior patterns.  Individuals learn to replace maladaptive thought patterns with healthier versions so they can respond better to stressful/triggering situations and reduce symptoms of various mental health conditions including depression and anxiety.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

Focuses on accepting difficult thoughts and feelings without judgment (rather than trying to control or get rid of them) and helps individuals to develop a different relationship with thoughts and feelings.  It encourages focusing on the present moment, identifying core values, and committing to actions which are aligned with one's values, despite experiencing unpleasant emotions.

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

This type of CBT is primarily used for treating anxiety disorders including OCD. Through exposure to various triggers in a controlled environment, you learn how to respond with less fear, anxiety and compulsions.

Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)

Mindfulness practices may include present moment awareness, meditation and breathing exercises. As therapy tools, these can help you live in the present and relieve depression, anxiety and emotional distress.

Strengths-based Therapy

Focusing on your strengths during therapy can help you boost self-esteem and confidence, which builds coping skills and resilience while helping you achieve your goals.

Therapy with April

I truly enjoy getting to know my clients and their stories - understanding their history, their fears, their needs, and who they want to be as their future self.

Clients frequently tell me that I am easy to talk to, they do not feel judged, and they learn things about themselves which they did not learn in previous therapy experiences.  I also seem to have a knack for making my clients laugh which they often tell me has them leaving their session feeling better, even if we've had to process some very difficult topics.

Most of all, I value giving my clients an inviting and safe space to express themselves, to leave their session feeling heard, and the tools and confidence to create lasting change in their lives.
